Drones are generic vehicles that are not (and do not want to be) involved in the carnage, simply serving to breathe life into the levels (while the player is busy trying to remove it) and get in the way. They feature in Carmageddon II and Carmageddon TDR 2000.
The traffic in Carma2 and CarmaTDR drive around preset paths, and come to a halt when struck; they then behave as accessories. Drones cannot be fully destroyed, nor are they highly detailed or visible on maps. There are a few different types, such as hatchbacks and buses, and will deform when hit hard enough. Once out of the rendering area, they respawn as fully functional drones.
In Carmageddon TDR 2000, they look considerably more 'apocalyptic' than the shiny bland motors of its prequel.
Differences between drones and noncars[]
Drones can be seen as objects that are placed on the level. Noncars on the other hand, are part of the level, and behave in conjunction with it. Thus, drones can follow complex paths, like they do in the games, whereas noncars can't. However, drones have limited animation, as opposed to noncars.
