Summer Nuke Fest is the first mission in the Back of Beyond area, and the sixteenth in the game.
The player must steal a nuclear bomb from The Fortress and take it to the dome for safe keeping.
Description[]
These muties are so dense. It's hard to carve a clear path through them.
Walkthrough[]
This mission is a tough one.
Straight away, press Y to select the Fortress on your HUD. Drive up the rock ramp to the flat area, picking up the power-up. There should be a Slaughter mortar pickup on the left towards the vehicles, and another in the nearby crater. You can see that the Fortress is carrying the bomb on it's back, and is guarded by six of the Spectre. They're weak as flies, but fast and get in the way.
Don't attack the vehicles yet. Instead, drive as quickly as you can to the Thunda Sphere in the South-West: They pass through here on their route, and it's near to where you want the bomb. There is an Afterburner pick-up on the way, but also a Reversed Controls. Park near the crashed plane, facing East, and get ready for combat.
The Spectres will arrive first. Destroy them if you want, but don't waste all your mortars on them. The Fortress will arrive quickly, and just try to drive past. Hit it with the slaughter mortars quickly, keeping it as close to the dome as possible. Once it is dead, you will get a cutscene.
This is why you should waste it near the dome - you've got to tow the bomb in there, and it's tricky.
Reverse up to the bomb, and a rope will attach it to your car. Once it is attached, head for the entrance to the Thunda Sphere, but not too quickly, as the bomb will bounce around and throw you off course. Using an Afterburner or driving too fast will sever the bomb cable, and you will need to pick it up again. Don't recover or you will drop the bomb, and might lose it (the Objective Cam can help here). You can push the bomb if you like, but this is even slower and imprecise.
Drop down into the entrance for the dome, and pick up the bomb again if it falls off. Now just drive slowly into the Thunda Sphere, dragging the bomb to the central red canister to finish the mission.
